You can install Anaconda using either the graphical installer ('wizard') or thecommand line ('manual') instructions below. If you are unsure, choose the graphical install.

macOS graphical install¶

1. Download the graphical macOS installer for your version of Python.

2. RECOMMENDED: Verify data integrity with SHA-256.For more information on hashes, see What about cryptographic hash verification?

3. Double-click the downloaded file and click continue to start the installation.

4. Answer the prompts on the Introduction, Read Me, and License screens.

5. Click the Install button to install Anaconda in your ~/opt directory (recommended):

6. OR, click the Change Install Location button to install in another location (not recommended).

   The last tree (itch) (ricefarmerlenin) mac os. On the Destination Select screen, select Install for me only.

   Note

   Monster muncher mac os. If you get the error message 'You cannot install Anaconda in this location,' reselect Install for me only.

7. Click the continue button.

8. Optional: To install PyCharm for Anaconda, click on the link to https://www.anaconda.com/pycharm.

   Or to install Anaconda without PyCharm, click the Continue button.

Using the command-line install¶

Use this method if you prefer to use a terminal window.

Cloud Os Free

1. In your browser, download the command-line version of themacOS installer for your system.

2. RECOMMENDED: Verify data integrity with SHA-256.For more information on hash verification, see cryptographic hash validation.

   • Equinox (itch) mac os. Open a terminal and run the following:

   Note

   Replace /path/filename with your installation's path and filename.

3. Install for Python 3.7 or 2.7:

   • For Python 3.7 enter the following:

   • For Python 2.7, open the Terminal.app or iTerm2 terminal application and then enter the following:

   Note

   Include the bash command regardless of whether or not you are using the Bash shell.

   Note

   Replace ~/Downloads with your actual path and Anaconda3-2020.02-MacOSX-x86_64.sh with actual name of the file you downloaded.

4. The installer prompts 'In order to continue the installation process, please review the license agreement.'Click Enter to view the license terms.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the license terms and enter yes to agree to them.

6. The installer prompts you to Press Enter to confirm the location, Press CTRL-C to cancel the installationor specify an alternate installation directory. If you confirm the default location,it will display PREFIX=/home//anaconda<2or3> and continue the installation.

   Note

   Unlike the graphical install, installing the shell file will place it in ~/anaconda<2 or 3> by default,not ~/opt. This is due to limitations with installing .pkg files on macOS Catalina.

   Installation may take a few minutes to complete.

   Note

   We recommend you accept the default install location. Do not choose the path as /usr for theAnaconda/Miniconda installation.

7. The installer prompts 'Do you wish the installer to initialize Anaconda3by running conda init?' We recommend 'yes'.

   Note

   If you enter 'no', then conda will not modify your shell scripts at all.In order to initialize after the installation process is done, first runsourcetoconda>/bin/activate and then run condainit.

   Note

   If you are on macOS Catalina, the new default shell is zsh.You will instead need to run sourcetoconda>/bin/activatefollowed by condainitzsh.

8. The installer displays 'Thank you for installing Anaconda!'

9. Optional: The installer describes the partnership between Anaconda and JetBrains andprovides a link to install PyCharm for Anaconda athttps://www.anaconda.com/pycharm.

10. Close and open your terminal window for the Anaconda installation to take effect.

11. To control whether or not each shell session has the base environmentactivated or not, run condaconfig--setauto_activate_baseFalseorTrue. To run conda from anywhere without having the base environmentactivated by default, use condaconfig--setauto_activate_baseFalse.This only works if you have run condainit first.

    Note

    condainit is available in conda versions 4.6.12 and later.

HOW FAST IS YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION?

Each Mac mini has a 1 Gbps network connection a few hops away from the public internet. Each data center has multiple bandwidth providers and we make sure all of our connections have plenty of available bandwidth. To summarize, 'very fast'.

WHAT CAN YOU USE A MAC MINI OR MAC PRO FOR?

Many, many things. Use it as a server. Load ESXi on it and run macOS, Linux, or Windows Virtual Machines. Host Mac specific software (Filemaker, Daylite, Xcode, Jenkins, etc). Personal remote workstation. Off site backup/redundancy. Software development and testing. Plus many more use cases.

HOW RELIABLE IS A MAC MINI?

Very reliable. If you had to choose a weak point of the Mac mini, it'd be the hard drive. Performing backups to a second drive and using our Enterprise colocation plan will ensure that when the day comes that your hard drive finally stops spinning, you won't have data loss or any unexpected bills. We'll handle the hardware repair and data restore free of charge.

I GET THE RENT2OWN MAC MINI AFTER 12 MONTHS?

Well yes and no. We don't automatically pack it up and ship it to you. Your colocation service keeps renewing until you cancel that. We treat the Mac mini as owned by you at that point and only invoice the colo fees.

WHAT IS COLOCATION?

Colocation (colo for short) is where a customer owns their equipment and pays a data center for rack space, bandwidth, and power. Over the long term this is a tremendous savings over leasing equipment. When you no longer need the server hosted we ship it back to you.

WHAT IF I WANT TO RUN WINDOWS, LINUX, OR VIRTUALIZATION?

We are one of the few companies that will load Windows or Linux (CentOS/Ubuntu Server LTS) on a bare metal Mac mini. We also offer ESXi which is great for virtualization. You can also virtualize inside your macOS, Windows, or Linux OS as well. You'll most likely want an additional IP for each VM.
